Bo Yi was interested in wushu from childhood. For some time he trained sanda, having some successes, but he wasn't satisfied. At beginning of 1990s he started learning yiquan from master Yao Chengguang, for 8 years training full time and assisting Yao in teaching. During this time he gained rich experience, both in teaching and in fighting, accepting many challenges. He won his fights in first yiquan competitions in 1998 and second in 2000.

Then he opened Yiquan Training Center in Shanghai, and also instructed and the Academy of Traditional Chinese Medicine there. In 2009 he participate in Wulinfeng tournament, winning by TKO in 50 seconds.

Lately he worked as chief trainer in Wushu Club in Xiandu, Shanxi province. His competitors are successful in WMA (Wushu Masters Association) tournaments. He was also asked to become consulting expert of Wulin Dahui tournaments, which are organized by CCTV5 tv station.
